Frequently Asked Questions

What is a capital stewardship campaign?
A capital stewardship campaign is a church-wide, concerted appeal for funds to purchase or develop real estate.

Why did C.T. begin a capital campaign?
We firmly believe that this is our time to accomplish our long term vision of constructing adequate facilities to worship God, to teach and train our children and youth, and equip our congregation to take the Gospel to our community and the world.

Is there a scriptural basis for this type campaign?
Yes. The Bible provides definite examples of God’s people being challenged to give offerings that were “over and above” their normal gifts (Exodus, chapters 25 and 35; 1 Chronicles, chapter 29).

How and when will the campaign be conducted?
To present our “Cross Over” vision to the congregation, we will use “P.I.E.” meetings (Pastor Information Exchange), a series of stewardship lessons, Sunday morning pastoral messages, and printed materials. The campaign will extend from Sunday, April 27th, through Sunday, June 1st.

When will the campaign end?
On “Celebration Sunday,” May 18th, each of us will offer a three-year stewardship commitment. The campaign will conclude on Sunday, June 1, 2008.

What will make our campaign successful?
If each of us will pray, search the Scriptures, and obediently respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, not only will our campaign be successful, but more importantly, we will accomplish the purpose God has intended for each individual and our church.

Why do we need a new building?
Our growing congregation requires educational facilities for infants, children, youth, and adults. Space must also be provided for fellowship and for staff and ministry offices.

What will be the cost of the new Worship Center?
To construct Phase One of our building plan, we need an estimated $10.7 to $12.2 million. In addition to the “Cross Over” stewardship campaign, financial resources will also be accumulated from the sale of our current facilities and a limited borrowing of funds.

What will be the size of the new Worship Center?
In the initial phase, a multi-purpose facility will include seating for 3900+, state of the art video and sound equipment, staging for seasonal productions of music and drama, a spacious welcome center in the lobby, classrooms, nursery, and kitchen facilities. Building plans will soon be displayed in the church foyer.

When will construction begin?
As we finalize the design stage, ground-breaking for Phase One is anticipated to begin in 2009.

How much will I be expected to give?
We have no set formula; you will not be told what is your “fair share.” Each of us should begin seeking the Lord concerning the amount He wants to provide through us. Remember that giving should be “above and beyond” our tithe and regular missions offerings. It should always involve individual sacrifice and a personal act of faith.

What is meant by “equal sacrifice; unequal gifts”?
Because of the various levels of skills and income, the giving potential of our members will vary. While the amount may differ, we can all give with equal sacrifice to fulfill the vision of our church.

How long do I have to fulfill my commitment?
Giving will be spread over a 36-month period. This means you can give weekly, monthly, or a one-time gift. You may also donate tangible assets. If appropriate, the church will issue a letter of receipt for those items, and the reasonable or market value may be included under “charitable giving” on your tax return.

Will monetary commitments be announced publicly?
No. Individual commitments will be kept confidential. However, the total commitment of the leadership and congregation will be made public.

Why must I fill out a commitment card?
The purpose of the commitment card is to provide the church with an approximate total, so that we can plan for the future.

How often will commitments be made to the campaign?
Commitments will be made weekly, monthly, or annually over the next three years. Of course, you may also give non-cash gifts, such as: real estate, land, stocks, bonds, collectibles, jewelry, etc. Commitment cards of the church leaders will be completed at the Advance Commitment Dinner on Friday, May 9th, and by the entire congregation at the Altar of Commitment service on Sunday, May 18, 2008.

Will I be contacted regarding my giving?
We will all be asked to make a “faith promise”— that is, an indication of the financial gift you believe God will provide through you. Your giving is strictly a covenant between you and God, based solely upon His leading. You will be under no legal obligation to fulfill your faith promise. Remember that our goal is not merely the donation of money or the construction of a building. We must learn to hear God’s voice, step out in faith, and watch as He abundantly blesses this congregation.

Can a commitment be changed?
Yes. As the Lord leads, you may either increase or decrease your commitment at any time.

Will new members be asked to help fund this project?
Yes! Since our purpose is to make room for them to join this great fellowship, new members will be provided information and encouraged to participate in our “Cross Over” campaign throughout the follow-up efforts of this three-year giving period.
